I didn’t know I was pregnant!

Well, the news is officially out- I AM PREGNANT. 22 weeks pregnant to be exact!

If you were shocked by the announcement of Baby Seidler #2, trust me, that feeling is very much mutual. When you work so, so hard to have your first baby, the last thing you EVER expect is to have a surprise, absolutely not planned, baby. It was not on my radar at all.

To add to the shock of even being pregnant, imagine my surprise when I found at 17 weeks! Yes, I did say 17 weeks. Now before you roll your eyes and say that’s not possible, I am here to tell you, it is very.much.possible! I am one of those rare people that has almost no pregnancy symptoms at all. With Tatum, the only reason I was aware of my symptoms is because I knew right from the very beginning since we did ivf, so when I felt different or anything came up, I knew why.

I’m sure you’re wondering how I found out then if I was already 17 weeks along, so let me back up to a few weeks ago.

Sean had just gotten back from his 2 month long school in Virginia, we had his two boys here for a couple weeks, and we were just about to head to Florida to visit his family. Sean was planning to drive while Tatum and I would fly a couple days later. The day Sean left it was just Tatum and me in the house, so it was unusually quiet already, and since she was in bed, it was even more quiet. I was watching tv and felt something that felt too much like a baby moving. I had been having phantom kicks for a long time, so I didn’t think *too* much of it, but “just in case” I pulled out my home doppler because surely if I felt a baby move, I’d find a heartbeat. Honestly I didn’t think I would, it was more to put my mind at ease before going on vacation. But sure enough, right as I put the doppler on, there was a heartbeat. Keep in mind, Sean had already left for Florida and Tatum was asleep, so it wasn’t like I could just run to the store and grab a pregnancy test.

So, the next morning, as soon as Tatum was awake and fed, we ran to Walmart and grabbed a test. Of course I rushed home and immediately took it. The “HEY, YOU’RE PREGNANT!” line popped up before even the control line did, so there was no denying I was pregnant! But, you know, just in case the doppler and the test were wrong, I immediately called my ob’s office to see if I could get in. At this point, Sean knew was what going on, so we just (not so) patiently waited for my appt that day.

As you know, of course I was truly pregnant- duh, Alissa 😉 On that day I was 17 weeks & 1 day. We were even able to find out baby’s gender, which was pretty crazy, and there was nooooo denying that baby is very, very much a boy!

People have asked me how it’s possible that I didn’t know, and truthfully, I had no clue. I had heartburn every once in awhile, but that’s not uncommon for me. I also had the same bloated/uncomfortable feeling that I had with Tatum in the beginning, but it was so few and far between (I’m talking it happened two, maybe three times), that it was not enough to alert me to anything. I was also exclusively breastfeeding and wasn’t having periods, but that’s extremely common when breastfeeding. And lastly, of course I was exhausted, but I had a newborn that wasn’t sleeping, so that just made sense. Honestly the biggest thing was that I could.not lose weight. I was getting so frustrated because my belly and weight had come off rather quickly after having Tatum, but then it just stalled. In fact, it seemed like my belly was only getting bigger! Again, duh, Alissa. Now it all makes sense, of course.

And now here we are, 22 weeks along, and preparing to welcome another baby! It really all feels very surreal to me and hasn’t quite sunk in yet. I’m slowly adjusting though, albeit very, very slowly 😉

So there you have it- welcome to our crazy, crazy life!

Congrats!! What a beautiful way to find out you’re pregnant!! I have to admit I’m a little jealous of your lack of pregnancy symptoms, I am normally sick for at least 17-20 weeks— 🤮

Oh no! That’s so awful. I’ve been incredibly lucky to not have any sickness with either of my pregnancies, so I can’t imagine!
